Abstract:
This article is the third in a series of works dedicated to identifying previously unknown (or misinterpreted) Tocharian B forms attested in the texts from the Berlin collection. The article consists of four sections: forms with prefixes, imperative forms, imperfect and optative forms, and addendum. The last section includes several nominal (in a broad sense) forms absent in the 2022 and 2024 papers, among which diminutives with the suffix -śke stand out. Our interpretation of the form epes (folio B 110) merits a special mention. We suggest that this form, which was previously considered a scribal error, is an adverb meaning ‘in marriage’: this interpretation provides a significantly more precise understanding of the content of the fragmentarily preserved Tocharian B text, which expounds the legendary biographies of the two main disciples of the Buddha Śākyamuni, Śāriputra and Maudgalyāyana.
