Abstract:

The paper deals with the polysemy of Future Anterior tense in Romance. The cross-linguistic polysemy of this form, described in Yana A. Penkova’s papers, is here expanded by some additional uses, such as the “ignorative” contexts. In the literature on the Romance verbal system, multiple semantic uses of Future Anterior have been discerned but never previously compared and analyzed in a typological context. The research is informed by corpus material and questionnaires.
